Facelift Recovery Tips
- Posted on: May 16 2012
One of the best ways to fight signs of advanced aging and to look your best is to undergo a facelift. The facelift was one of the five most popular plastic surgery procedures performed last year, and it can really make a difference when it comes to wrinkles in the middle portion of the face. When you meet with a skilled Edina plastic surgeon, you will be able to learn everything you need to know in order to determine if the surgery is the best option for you and your needs.
About Facelift Surgery
The Edina facelift is a facial plastic surgery procedure that targets wrinkles, sagging, and lines in the middle section of the face. That means the upper cheek area and the corners of the eyes.
How a Facelift is Performed
During a facelift surgery, patients are placed under general anesthesia. Incisions are made behind the ears and around the edges of the hairline. Through these incisions, the surgeon will remove excess fat and tissue, adjust underlying structures, and pull the remaining skin tighter. The skin is then sutured in place. Great care will be taken to ensure the skin tightening is subtle but the results are dramatic. (The procedure will differ if combined with other facial rejuvenation surgeries, such as cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).)
What to Expect in the First Days After Surgery
In the first days after surgery, swelling, discomfort, bruising. and grogginess are all common. It’s important that patients do not touch their faces excessively and that they sleep in such a way as to avoid putting pressure on their face. No unnecessary physical activities are recommended. Ideally a patient should get good rest and remain well hydrated. Pain medications can be taken as instructed and as needed. The office should be contacted immediately in case of extreme pain or discomfort.
What to Expect in the First Weeks After Surgery
In the weeks after surgery, you’ll be visiting the practice for follow-up visits. Swelling and bruising should subside over time. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous physical activities, especially ones that involve heavy lifting as this will put a lot of pressure on the face and the skin of the face. The use of make up will be strictly prohibited for some time, depending on how quickly you heal. Regular activities can be resumed slowly and at our discretion.
Other Things to Consider Down the Road
