Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable is a dermal filler we use to the reverse the signs of the signs of aging by replacing the collagen lost from the skin. Collagen is a key component found in the layers of our skin, giving our face its volume and seamless appearance. As our body naturally ages, and collagen levels decrease, the skin loses volume and sags into folds and wrinkles. By restoring collagen, Sculptra Injectables are able to fill out those shallow-to-deep wrinkles and folds that many of us do not desire.
Sculptra Aesthetic’s main component is an alpha hydroxy acid called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is suspended in water. This component has the following advantages:
- Safe and Long-Lasting
- Synthetic– Artificially made
- Biocompatible– Proven to be used harmlessly within the body
- Biodegradable – The human body is naturally able to be break down the substance.
PLLA has made it’s stamp within the medical community for over 20 years. This component is used in many surgical products, such as dissolvable sutures and soft-tissue implants.
Sculptra Treatment Areas
Most patients seeking to reduce signs of aging fall between the ages of 30 to 65 years old. Sculptra injectables are safe and effective for most patients looking to treat the following areas:
- Nasolabial Folds– Also known as smile lines, they extend from the corners of the mouth to the nose
- Marionette Lines– These lines extend vertically down the chin from the corners of the mouth
- Hollows or skin depressions- This includes sunken cheeks
Sculptra is not an appropriate dermal filler in the eye nor the lip areas.
Benefits Of Sculptra Injectable
Sculptra injectable is able to give their patients what they are looking for, a youthful, natural looking appearance. Because it works gradually, patients are able to see a subtle, yet noticeable change. Sculptra ingredients do not contain animal, human or bacterial components, which eliminates the necessity for allergy testing prior to treatment. Once your treatment is completed, there is little-to-no downtime and most patients return to their normal activities immediately.
Sculptra Treatment And Results
Once you arrive at the office, your treatment should take about 30 to 60 minutes. We may apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area to minimize any discomfort, although treatment is not usually painful. Sculptra is administered via a small needle, and injected directly into the deepest layers of the skin which provides the best results of collagen production. Our Sculptra patients can receive up to 4 injection sessions, which are spread about 3 weeks apart. When injected into the targeted areas, your lines and folds will begin to smooth our as collagen production adds volume to the skin. Results of Sculptra injections may vary, however their effects should last for up to 2 years in most patients.
Side Effects Of Sculptra
For up to a week after receiving your Sculptra injections, we advise our patients to massage the injection site with their fingers, to help minimize the risk of developing lumps under the skin. Some possible side effects can include localized bleeding, tenderness, discomfort, redness, bruising and swelling. Side effects are usually mild and subside within a few days of treatment.
