Arm Lift Surgery

For both men and women, but women especially, the upper arms can be a source of frustration. Exercise and strength training may achieve toned arms in many men and women, but sometimes even exercise and lifting weights cannot provide satisfactory results. Age, weight gain and weight loss, and genetics all play a role in the appearance of your upper arms. It can be quite frustrating to lose weight and to strengthen the muscles of the arm s and still have excessive fat and droopy skin. While exercise is extremely important to your overall health and well-being, it cannot diminish the loose hanging skin of the arms, weakened tissues in the arms, or localized areas of fat in the arms. The only way to correct these issues is through brachioplasty (arm lift surgery).
Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Lift Surgery?
Men and women who are in good health and of a normal weight with loose or hanging skin and isolated areas of fat in the upper arms are usually good candidates for arm lift surgery. Arm lift surgery can significantly improve the appearance of the upper arms by eliminating excess skin and fat. Through arm lift surgery, our patients can achieve a more toned, youthful, and proportionate appearance in the arms.
Arm Lift Surgery
During your arm lift surgery, our Edina plastic surgeon, Christopher J. Kovanda will remove excess skin and fat between the underarm and the elbow. This is done by making an incision on the underside of the upper arm. Once the fat and skin have been reduced, the skin will be tightened to provide a more toned and smooth appearance to the arms. Excessive amounts of isolated fat in the arms may be removed through liposuction.
Arm Lift Surgery Recovery
Swelling and bruising are common after arm lift surgery and should be expected. Even with swelling, the results of arm lift surgery should be immediately visible. Arms will appear more toned and proportionate to the body, while the texture of the arms will also be improved. For the majority of our Edina arm lift surgery patients, swelling should subside within one to two weeks after the procedure. During your surgical consultation, we will provide detailed after-care instructions and answer any questions you may have.
Liposuction may be used in conjunction with arm lift surgery to improve the appearance of the arms. For our patients who do not require arm lift surgery in Edina, liposuction may still be used to enhance their overall appearance. Stubborn isolated areas of fat in the body that are not eliminated through exercise and diet can be removed through liposuction. Liposuction may be used to remove isolated fat deposits in the neck, back, arms, hips, waist, inner knees, calves, ankles, cheeks, and thighs. Patients desiring a more toned and shapely contour may benefit from liposuction. Liposuction may also be combined with other treatments, such as tummy tuck surgery and breast augmentation surgery.
