What You Need to Know about Healing from a Brazilian Butt Lift
- Posted on: Apr 20 2015
The Brazilian butt lift, also known as fat grafting to the buttocks, has become a much-requested plastic surgery procedure today. Reasons for its growing popularity include multiple body contouring benefits and less complications than traditional buttock augmentation using implants. However, a Brazilian butt lift is a surgical procedure that does require a recovery period of up to 6 weeks.. By preparing yourself for the recovery process, you will be providing your body ample time and the best environment for full healing to take place.
Immediately After Surgery
A Brazilian butt lift can take up to 3-4 hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia. Patients remain in a recovery area under observation after surgery to ensure no complications arise from the anesthesia or the procedure. Most will likely be allowed to go home the same day as the procedure, if they have someone to drive them home and remain with them for the first 24-48 hours. Smoke is toxic to grafted fat cells. Do not smoke or expose yourself to second hand smoke whatsoever.
When You Go Home
To ensure the fat grafts take completely, you will be restricted from putting any pressure on your backside for 2 weeks. During that time, you will be encouraged to rest on your side or stomach – sitting will not be allowed at first because it places too much stress on the buttocks and could interfere with your results. You will be encouraged to do some getting up and walking during the first few days to prevent the formation of blood clots. Patients are also asked to wear a compression garment for up to 6 weeks after surgery, to prevent swelling and promote healing to the treated areas.
Getting Back to Activities
Most patients are able to return to regular activities within 4-6 weeks. Long periods of sitting will be prohibited in the weeks following the initial recovery period, and short periods of sitting will require a cushion that takes much of the stress off the buttocks. Within 6-8 weeks after surgery, you will be able to resume more strenuous, fat-burning activities like running.
A Brazilian butt lift is an effective way of creating curves to the backside that will last forever, as long as you take proper care of your body after surgery. By following post-operative instructions to the letter, you will achieve the best possible results and minimize your risk of complications.
